Poem: Rare lights
They care
not because they have to
but because they want to
They converse
not to reply
but to listen
They mediate
not to tighten their connections
but to save and foster existing ones
They employ leverage
not to be blatant
but to be subtly considerate
They accept
your shortcomings
with sincerity and sorrow
They untangle
knots with patience,
not with invasions
These are the rare lights
who make life less lonely
for everyone they know
without knowing it themselves.
Notes: This poem is for Day 12 of the Global Poetry Writing Month. I dedicate it to rare souls spread across the world who radiate the warmth of empathetic human connection and hold its fire in an ever increasingly distant world. Thank you, even if you don’t know it’s you.
