# Life slice #2: Reading science fiction and talking rockets

- I watched [Project Hail Mary](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12042730/) this week, partly because of all the hype surrounding it. The movie was alright. The visuals were good but the rest was just okay. I also couldn’t switch my space and physics brain off so I kept finding flaws. I’d argue finding major scientific flaws in science fiction is fair game. I’m sure [the book](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/54493401-project-hail-mary) will fare better here. I intentionally didn’t read the book before watching the movie because I knew I’d be disappointed with the movie in such a case. Now that I’m disappointed anyway, I think I saved myself extra disappointment.
- I started reading the third book of the Three Body Problem series: [Death’s End](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25451264-death-s-end). I’m enjoying it so far, like [the first](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20518872-the-three-body-problem) and [second one](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/66562105-the-dark-forest). The sheer scale of thought in the series is simply amazing.
- It was good to catch up with a few friends this week.
- I left most of the few WhatsApp groups I was on to be more discerning about whom I give my attention to or for what, and to simply reduce my stress levels.
- I’m giving a [lecture on space rockets](https://pintofviewclub.substack.com/p/coming-wednesday-indias-most-renowned) for [Pint of View BLR](https://pintofview.club) coming Wednesday. Come nerd your brain out 🤓. Journalistic disclaimer: My honorarium for the talk is the same regardless of the number of tickets sold so there’s no incentive for me to share this and sell more.
